Since buying Mountain View Tire & Service Inc. in the spring of 2021, Monro Inc. has decided to keep and expand the brand, extending it to at least two other acquisitions in California.
According to Monro’s most recent annual report, these California stores, purchased in separate deals in November 2021, will operate under the Mountain View Tire banner:
- A retail tire and automotive service store previously owned by Golden Reflections
- Two retail tire and automotive service stores previously owned by Eagle Auto & Tire Inc.
Interestingly, the stores from a third acquisition completed that same day — three stores from Bud’s Tire and Wheel Inc., will operate under a different Monro brand — Tire Choice.
In April 2021, Monro bought Mountain View’s 30 stores in California for $62.1 million. During a May 2021 conference call with investors, Brian d’Ambrosia, chief financial officer, noted that the company was "looking at the brand portfolio. We've acquired the Mountain View brand, which is a strong brand out there. We'll look at the role that brand is going to play on the West Coast. We have the Tire Choice (brand) out there currently which is what we've rebranded some of our acquisitions with."
The Mountain View Tire acquisition was a big piece of Monro's focused efforts to grow in California. The 30 stores previously owned and operated by Nick Mitsos, a past MTD Tire Dealer of the Year Award recipient, were expected to provide $45 million in annualized sales.
