Nexen Tire Holds The Lead In 2016 Tire Championship

Sept. 13, 2016

Nexen Tire continued the tour with Formula DRIFT and returned to Texas for Round 7: The Showdown.

Alec Hohnadell in the Enjuku / Get Nuts Lab / Nexen Tire Nissan 240, finished the night strong with his first podium of 2016 in 3rd place. Hohnadell struggled with car issue throughout the night, but this win put him in 9th overall in championship points. At just 21 years of age, he continues to be a driver to watch in the years to come.

“I always give my 100% every round and my second podium in my Formula Drift career with 3rd place podium in Texas finally paid off. I will continue to give it all to finish strong this year and Nexen N’Fera SUR4 will get me there,” said Alec Hohnadell.

Returning champion Fredric Aasbo in the Rockstar Energy / Nexen Tire SR by Toyota tC, who entered the event 2nd in overall championship points, faced the 2-time champion and point leader, Chris Forsberg. Aasbo gave a great performance in the qualifying round, landing himself in the Top 3, and then advanced with confidence into the opening round. Aasbo overcorrected when giving chase against Forsberg, causing Forsberg to take the lead.

"We had the car to beat out there this weekend," said Aasbo. "We've never had a better package in terms of setup and grip and speed. We are dialed."

Aasbo landed the podium three times this year in Orlando,Montreal and Long Beach. With one round remaining in the season, Papadakis Racing manufacturer partner SR by Toyota leads the Auto Cup, while tire partner Nexen Tire tops the Tire Cup standings.
