Modern Tire Dealer Wins Five Medals and 'Best of' Category

Modern Tire Dealer and Auto Service Professional won six medals for editorial excellence at the 25th International Automotive Media Competition (IAMC).

In addition to a gold medal, MTD's September 2015 story on Tire Dealer of the Year Ricky Benton went one step further when it won the "Best of Magazine Articles -- Writing" Division (see photo below). Written by Senior Editor Joy Kopcha, "It's all Good" chronicles the success of Benton and his tire dealership, Black's Tire Service Inc.

Entered in the Magazine Writing/Graphics and Digital Divisions, MTD took home the following International Automotive Media Awards for stories/issues published in 2015:

* Gold, Personality Profile, "It's all good," Joy Kopcha.

* Silver, Best Single Issue, “Performance Handbook,” Bob Ulrich, Mike Mavrigian, Lori Mavrigian, Wayne Williams and Neal Weingart.

* Silver, Editorial, "Pirelli's image," Ulrich.

* Silver, Digital: Column/Series/Blog, "B.O.B. blogs," Ulrich.

* Bronze, Graphics: Cover, March issue, "Four categories for winter buying,” Weingart.

Mike Mavrigian, editor of MTD's sister publication, ASP, won a gold medallion in the Technical/General category for his story on TPMS tips in the May/June issue. MTD and ASP are part of Bobit Business Media Inc.

Tony Swan, known as "The Dean" of Motor City automotive writers, won the IAMC Lifetime Achievement Award.

The IAMC awards ceremony was held in the Brembo North America Media Tent at the 38th annual Concours d’Elegance of America in Plymouth, Mich., July 31. The medal sponsors were Hyundai Motor America Inc. (gold), Meguiar's Car Care Products/Meguiar's Inc. (silver) and Hagerty Collector Car Insurance/Hagerty Group LLC (bronze).

The purpose of the IAMC is to "recognize and encourage excellence in all forms of automotive media." The competition is administered, produced and owned by the International Society for Vehicle Preservation, a non-profit educational organization, under the direction of Operations Director Tom Kelley.
