Community Tire Retreading Gives Away Its Prize Money

July 11, 2016

Community Tire Retreading is donating the prize money it won from an off-the-road tire retreading contest this spring, plus matching prizes from two its manufacturing partners. The donations total $10,000.

The St. Louis, Mo.-based retreader won $5,000 for its 20.5R-25 Unicuretm CL3 in the OTR contest at the North American Tire & Retread Expo in April. Two of Community Tire Retreading's manufacturing partners, Central Marketing and PreQ Galgo, each gave the retreader another $2,500 for its contest win.

Michael Berra Jr., president of Community Tire Retreading, says  ”On behalf of my family, our company, and our dedicated employees, we are honored to receive this award.  While we would have enjoyed additional competition, we nonetheless feel this victory is a testament to our commitment to the quality and appearance of our product line.  We would especially like to thank Gus Lima and his group for his continued dedication to the tire industry, and putting on an outstanding trade show.  We did not enter the contest for the money, but rather to show support for the retread industry.  We again recognize and thank our partners at Central Marketing and PreQ Galgo for their generous contribution and continuous support”.

Community Tire Retreading has elected to donate all of the funds.  “We feel it is important to continue to support the tire industry."

The donations will be split this way:

$2,000 Tire Retread & Repair Information Bureau (TRIB);

$2,000 Tire Industry Association Foundation;

$2500 will be distributed to the company's employees in the way of five, $500 scholarships for their children’s college tuition;

$2000 to a scholarship fund at St. Louis University established in memory Community Tire Co.'s founder, Michael A. Berra;

$1000 Gateway Wounded Warriors; and

$500 will be donated to Stray Rescue of St. Louis.
