At its mid-year meeting June 22-24, 2016, the Tire Industry Association (TIA) elected John Evankovich, director of Sam’s Club Tire and Battery Centers, as its new board secretary.

He will begin his one-year term as secretary on Oct. 31, 2016. After that year, he will proceed as vice president, then president, then past president; all of these positions are for one-year terms.

Evankovich is a 26-year retail veteran who has been focused on the tire industry for the majority of his career. He started his career in the tire business with Sam’s Club, which is owned by Wal-Mart Stores Inc., and has progressed through various operations and human resource roles. As director of Sam’s Club’s Tire and Battery Centers, his responsibilities today encompass all operations of over 630 retail locations all over the United States.

TIA says Evankovich has earned numerous accolades throughout his career. The most prestigious of these are the 2009 Sam’s Club Achievement in Service Award recognizing outstanding contributions in customer experience and the 2013 Sam’s Club Carpe Diem Award for achievements in the area of consumer and workplace safety. He has also achieved a certificate in human resource employment practice and law.

“John has tremendous industry experience and a proven commitment to the association. We are fortunate to have him taking on this leadership role on our board and the entire industry will benefit from his expertise,” says TIA Executive Vice President Roy Littlefield.
