Missing Date Code Prompts Recall of Pirelli P Zero Trofeo Tires

May 18, 2016

Pirelli Tire LLC is recalling 42 P Zero Trofeo tires because they lack the required date code required by the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard.

Pirelli says the date code insert fell out of the cavity of the tire mold during production during the 13th and 14th weeks of 2015. A tire dealer alerted the company of a shipment of four tires received without the date code.

The recall involves size 225/50ZR15 TL 91Y. The tire identification number preceding the missing date code is XJBU U785.

Because the tire is a track tire for driving enthusiasts, Pirelli told the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) “due to the nature of this tire type and application, it is likely that many of the subject tires are no longer in use, due to the intended usage of the tires and their expected short life.”

Pirelli is notifying owners and dealers and replace the tires free of charge. Owners may contact Pirelli customer service at 1-800-747-3554.

Owners also may contact the NHTSA hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or go to www.safercar.gov.
