Goodyear Tire Notes: Charlotte

May 17, 2016

NASCAR Sprint Cup Series – Sprint Showdown & Sprint All-Star Race
Charlotte Motor Speedway (1.5-mile oval) – Concord, N.C., May 19-21, 2016

Teams in the NASCAR Sprint Cup and Camping World Truck Series will run completely different tire set-ups at Charlotte this week. There are two new tire codes for Sprint Cup teams, compared to what was run at Charlotte last year, both of these tires have an updated construction to bring them into line with what is run at other speedways. The left-side code (D-4698) features a compound change for more grip while the right-side code (D-4700) is a single tread compound tire which offers more grip than either of the two compounds run on Goodyear’s multi-zone tread tire run at Charlotte last year. This tire set-up came out of a Goodyear test at Charlotte on March 8-9 with drivers Austin Dillon, Jamie McMurray, Brian Scott and Martin Truex Jr.. As on all NASCAR ovals greater than one mile in length, teams are required to run inner liners in all four tire positions at Charlotte. The air pressure in those inner liners should be 12-25 psi greater than that of the outer tire.
