Apollo Tyres Ltd. has named its first senior vice president for North America: Steven Smidlein. He will be responsible for building the brands and sales of both Apollo and Vredestein tires.
Smidlein will work from Apollo's office in New Jersey and will report to Neeraj Kanwar, vice chairman and managing director of Apollo.
“With North America almost being an uncharted territory for us, Steven’s 30+ years of sales management and retail experience, especially in the automotive sector, will help establish both Apollo and Vredestein brands in this continent," Kanwar says. "We would be relying on his proven ability to grow market share, with a focus on delivery of aggressive sales targets.”
Apollo says Smidlein brings with him an extensive experience in the automotive sector, including a recent position of director of original equipment sales for Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. Prior to that, he was a corporate director for Daimler Chrysler.
