Pirelli adds capacity at MIRS plant in Georgia

Pirelli Tire North America has commenced the installation of a fourth tire production line at its MIRS (Modular Integrated Robotized System) facility in Rome, Ga.

The new line will be dedicated principally to the Scorpion Zero SUV line. Full production from the new line, which will include a 26-inch size, is expected in June 2005.

Pirelli showcased the 26-inch Scorpion Zero at the Specialty Equipment Market Association Show in Las Vegas last month. It formerly was manufactured in Europe.

With the added capacity, Pirelli´s Rome, Ga., MIRS plant will become the lead source in the worldwide Pirelli Group for performance SUV tires.

Pirelli´s almost totally automated 440,000-square-foot MIRS plant operates three production modules.
