Sizes added to Bridgestone steer, drive tire lines

Nov. 30, 2004

Bridgestone Firestone North American Tire LLC has added three sizes to its radial lineup of Bridgestone R287 steer and Bridgestone M726 EL drive tires.

The new sizes are 11R22.5, 11R24.5 and 285/75R24.5. The truck tires already are available in the popular 295/75R22.5 size.

The Bridgestone R287 steer radial is manufactured using irregular wear-fighting technology for even wear and low cost per mile, according to the company. The new sizes also are engineered to deliver exceptionally long tire life.

All sizes of the Bridgestone R287 steer radial use a high-tech tread compound that is stiffer and is engineered to fight abrasion that occurs during hard braking and cornering.

In addition, the R287 features the exclusive Bridgestone Side Groove, which helps prevent edge and wavy wear and shoulder tearing. The inside of the groove is engineered to prevent stress cracking.

The patented Equalizer Rib structure fights the initiation and spread of edge wear, including river and wavy wear, on the main ribs, says Bridgestone Firestone.

The Bridgestone M726 EL drive radial offers an ultra-deep 32/32-inch tread depth and promotes high removal mileage, lower cost per mile and "outstanding" traction, says the company.

All sizes of the M726 EL incorporate a revolutionary tread compound and wider tread to help tread wear slowly and evenly, with better stability and heat resistance.

The next-generation compound also produces stiff blocks that resist heel-and-toe wear, while the buttressed block shape fights tearing for smooth wear. A long-wearing solid shoulder design fights irregular wear by distributing weight and torque, adds the company.

Large, aggressive blocks with computer-designed shapes are engineered and positioned to bite into soft surfaces for wet traction.
