Cooper launches Discoverer STT off-road tire

Nov. 3, 2004

The Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. has introduced the Cooper Discoverer STT super traction tread (STT) tire for pickup trucks and sport utility vehicles.

It features a bold, aggressive tread design that extends far down the sidewall to enhance soft surface traction and provide additional clawing power necessary to dig down in rock climbing applications. Each row of the tire´s non-directional tread elements is strategically siped for optimum handling in wet conditions, the company says.

This off-road traction tire also has a three-ply Armor-Tek3 (pronounced Armor-Tek three) body and specially developed tread compound for durability and enhanced puncture resistance. And, the notched shoulder lugs are scalloped so that one section always has a clear shot at fresh ground for traction in soft surface applications and additional gripping power in rock applications.

The new Discoverer STT with Armor-Tek3 is M+S rated and initially will be available in a dozen 16-, 17- and 18-inch light truck sizes with an additional 14 scheduled for next year.
