CGS acquisition of Conti ag tire program goes through

Oct. 14, 2004

Czech Republic-based Ceska Gumarenska Spolecnost´s (CGS) acquisition of Continental AG´s farm tire program, including Continental´s North American farm tire business, officially took place on Oct. 1, CGS Tires U.S. Inc. President Dennis Vavrik told moderntiredealer.com today.

CGS is now responsible for the production and trade of the Continental, Semperit, Barum and Euzkadi farm tire brands. CGS Tires U.S. (formerly known as Mitas U.S. Inc.), which is based in Charlotte, N.C., will oversee Continental´s farm tire program in North America.

The acquisition is part of CGS´ plan to intensify its focus on the off-road tire segment. CGS will integrate Continental´s farm tire division -- which has some 500 employees in Germany, the Czech Republic, and other countries -- as a separate unit.

Mitas U.S. Inc. also changed its name to CGS Tires U.S. on Oct. 1.
