Goodyear to cut production in Union City

Oct. 12, 2004

Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. plans to to reduce production at its Union City, Tenn., plant by 10%, effective Nov. 1.

"The company is taking this action primarily in response to cutbacks previously announced by automakers," say Goodyear officials.

The reduction will affect 250 jobs at the facility, which can produce 40,000 passenger and 14,000 light truck tires at capacity, according to Modern Tire Dealer data.

"All labor adjustments will be made according to the terms of the contract between Goodyear and the United Steelworkers of America."

Goodyear says it will work with the State Department of Workforce and Labor Development to "help provide outplacement services for laid-off associates."
