Bridgestone/Firestone to buy David Early Tire

July 1, 2004

BFS Retail & Commercial Operations LLC, a division of Bridgestone/Firestone North American Tire LLC (BFNT), has entered into an agreement to acquire certain assets of Salt Lake City, Utah-based David Early Tire Co.

Under the agreement, BFNT will convert all 18 David Early Tire outlets to Firestone Tire & Service Centers.

Financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed.

David Early Tire founder David Early Sr., who started the dealership in 1973, says BFNT is "an ideal strategic partner."

BFNT will stage a grand reopening once all stores are converted to the Firestone format this fall.

The acquisition gives BFNT 24 locations in the northern Utah region.

David Early Tire employs 136 people and was the 74th largest independent tire dealership in North America, according to Modern Tire Dealer's 2004 Top 100 Independent Tire Store Chain list.

It sells Pirelli, Michelin and BFGoodrich brand tires, in addition to Bridgestone, Firestone and Dayton brand products.

Early Sr. and son, David Early Jr., will concentrate on Early Holdings LLC, their family's real estate development firm.
