ATD's Johnson competes for 'Entrepreneur of the Year'

June 11, 2004

Dick Johnson, chairman and CEO of American Tire Distributors Inc., is a finalist in the Ernst & Young Carolinas Entrepreneur Of The Year program.

The Piedmont Entrepreneurs Network (PEN) will utilize its Web portal to simulcast the regional awards banquet live on the Internat (at http://www.pentriad.org/) on Thursday, June 17, 2004, beginning at 7 p.m EST.

Rick Wimmer, managing partner of Ernst & Young LLP's Greensboro, N.C., office, says the simulcast "is an opportunity for people throughout the Carolinas to see how vibrant our entrepreneurial community really is."

The Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year Awards Program began accepting nominations in early January. An independent panel of judges, comprised of local community and business leaders, selected 24 finalist companies.

American Tire Distributors is based in Huntersville, N.C.

The Carolinas' winners will be eligible for consideration for the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year 2004 national program. Winners in several national categories, as well as the overall national Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year, will be announced at the company's annual awards gala in Palm Springs, Calif., in November 2004.
