Strouhal to use Michelin's retread system

May 27, 2004

Hungerford, Texas-based Strouhal Tire Recapping Plant Inc. will switch to Michelin Retread Technologies Inc.'s (MRTI) system on June 1.

Strouhal Tire's contract with Bandag Inc. expires the same day, according to company CEO Don Strouhal.

Strouhal Tire had been a Bandag retreader since 1971.

"We have been a Michelin tire dealer since 1974 and we're looking forward to expanding our relationship with MRTI," says Strouhal.

Strouhal Tire also is consolidating two retread plants into one facility at its Hungerford headquarters.

"We're trying to gain efficiency by (using) a larger plant instead of two smaller plants," Strouhal told mtdealer.com this afternoon.

The new plant is expected to open within three months.

Strouhal Tire currently retreads 300 medium truck tire units a day, according to Modern Tire Dealer statistics, plus "a few" light truck tire units.

It is the 46th largest retreader in the United States.
