Goodyear names R&D fellow

May 4, 2004

Engineer Samuel Landers has been named an R&D Fellow by Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co.

R&D Fellow is the highest non-management title in Goodyear's research and development operations.

Landers, who manages Goodyear's Future Technology Development unit, is the fifth person to receive the title from the Akron, Ohio-based tiremaker.

He has been referred to as the "Father of Aquatred" due to his role in the tire's development.

"I don't think Sam likes it, but I also like to call him the 'grandfather' of (Goodyear's) new Assurance (line)," says Joe Gingo, Goodyear executive vice president, Quality Systems and chief technical officer.

Landers has been with Goodyear for 35 years.
