Alcoa launches line of one-piece, forged aluminum wheels

March 18, 2004

Three new 17x8-inch forged aluminum wheels are now available from Alcoa Forged Specialty Wheels.

The wheels launch a new Alcoa line of single rear wheels for highway and off-road applications. Alcoa plans to add more 17-, 16- and 15-inch wheels to the line throughout the year.

The 17x8 wheels fit selected imports such as Toyota, Nissan, Honda and Mitsubishi and domestic models including Ford, Dodge, Jeep and Chevrolet.

Specifications include P/N 478401 with 5x5.5 bolt circle; P/N 478411 with 6x5.5 bolt circle; and P/N 478481 with 8x6.5 bolt circle.

The new 17-inch wheels feature classic round hand hole styling and a one-piece design that eliminates welds that can concentrate stress and give cracks a place to start.

Hot forging eliminates air pockets and aligns the metal grain for greater strength and durability, the company notes. Alcoa aluminum wheels weigh less than comparable steel wheels, reducing the suspension’s unsprung weight for improved handling.

Alcoa backs its aluminum wheels with five-year limited warranty.
