Anglen Tire Co. has won the Outstanding Small Business of the Year award for 2003 from the Waxahachie, Texas, Chamber of Commerce.
Owner and CEO Chester Anglen bought the store in 1989 following a career in the newspaper business. He built a new building for the dealership in 1993, and now sells Michelin products as well as some Goodyear, Toyo, Kumho, Continental, General and private brand tires.
The store has 16 bays and offers "everything except air conditioning, transmission and major overhaul" services, says Anglen.
Waxahachie is a town of 25,000 people located about 30 miles south of Dallas, Texas.
Anglen says he was shocked and surprised to be singled out for the award, but credits the hard work of his son, Aaron, for much of the success. "He's my partner," he says. "He started here when he was nine years old."
