Goodyear Dealer Conference, Day Two: Commercial division hails new products

Feb. 9, 2004

Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. introduced a number of new commercial products at its 2004 Dealer Conference in Kissimmee, Fla.

The G287 MSA is the first in a new family of mixed service tires. Engineered to disipate heat efficiently, the tire is improved over the G286, according to Steve McClellan, vice president of commercial tire systems.

Compared to the G286 it features the following:

* flatter tread radius.

* wider footprint.

* 10% greater traction.

The new Optitrac DT824 farm tire is designed to deliver a smooth ride and low vibration at high speeds, said Chuck Mick, vice president of off-highway tires.

It has a deep tread depth and reinforced bead area. Sizes will be available in March.

The DT820 HD, designed for scraper applications, also will be available in March, with additional sizes introduced in April.

Goodyear's Engineered Products division also introduced a new timing belt, the Eagle PD.

Group President Tim Toppen said the belt, designed for automotive applications, will be original equipment on a "Detroit manufactured car." An announcement on the specific vehicle is forthcoming.
