Goodyear board member resigns

Dec. 4, 2002

Philip Laskawy resigned from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co.'s board of directors to accept a position on the General Motors Corp. board.

"I regret Phil's need to leave the board and thank him for the many contributions he has made over the last 16 months," says Sam Gibara, Goodyear's chairman and CEO.

Laskawy, 61, is the retired chairman and CEO of Ernst & Young LLP. He has been a member of Goodyear's board since August 2001.

In a prepared statement, both Goodyear and Laskawy felt being on both boards "could represent a conflict (of interests)" because Goodyear is a supplier to GM.

Goodyear's board consists of 11 members; nine are independent.
