TIA, EPA continue wheel weight talks

July 29, 2005

Representatives from the Tire Industry Association and the United States Environmental Protection Agency will meet again to discuss the creation of an outreach program that will promote proper lead wheel weight disposal.

The EPA is still considering a ban on lead wheel weights, according to TIA Director of Government Affairs Becky MacDicken.

A ban was requested by advocacy group The Ecology Center.

"We are expecting an answer to the Ecology Center's petition by mid-August to determine whether or not a ban will be implemented," says MacDicken.

An EPA spokesperson previously told moderntiredealer.com that a ban would be unlikely.
