MIRS plant receives ISO certification recommendation

June 7, 2005

Pirelli Tire North America's manufacturing plant in Rome, Ga., has

been recommended for ISO 14001 Certification.

The MIRS (Modular Integrated Robotized System) facility received the recommendation following a successful main audit resulting in zero

nonconformances.

"It is very important for Pirelli to continually develop and improve our environmental objectives," says Andrew Kearton, Pirelli's vice president of production. "ISO 14000 provides the foundation from which we are continuously working to exceed the requirements established by the legislation.

"As with all of our operational goals, we are always striving to be the best especially with regard to the health and well being of our

employees and our local community."

Pirelli's Rome plant recently received the Rubber Manufacturers Association's Excellence Award for achieving significant improvements in worker health and safety. Pirelli has received the award three consecutive years.

Production recently commenced on the plant's fourth module, which ups its capacity to more than 350,000 tires per year. Although flexible enough to produce both passenger car and SUV tires, the module will be dedicated principally to manufacturing Scorpion Zero performance SUV tires.

The first size produced by the module will be the 315/40R26 Scorpion Zero that was introduced at the 2004 Specialty Equipment Market Association Show in Las Vegas; it previously was produced only in Germany.
