Continental introduces five performance tire lines

May 24, 2005

At its test track in Uvalde, Texas, Continental Tire North America Inc. introduced tire dealers and journalists to five new Continental and General brand high performance tire lines.

The Continental tires include the ContiProContact and the ContiCrossContact UHP targeted for the “best in class” segment, according to Paul Tecci, Continental brand manager. “You can’t be the best in every area,” he says, “but you can be the best in the ones that count.”

The ContiProContact is geared for performance-luxury sedans. It is available in 21 sizes in 15- through 18-inch rim diameters, 40 through 65 series.

The ContiCrossContact UHP for light trucks and SUVs is available in 24 sizes in 16-, 17-, 18-, 19-, 20-, 22-, 23- and 24-inch rim diameters and 60 through 25 series. It also is available in four self-supporting run-flat sizes.

The General brand tires are targeted for the “better” category. “We’re putting Continental technology behind the General brand, something we haven’t done in the past,” says Tony Talbert, General tire brand manager. “We’re raising the bar for the General brand.”

The new tires include the Grabber UHP, Exclaim UHP and Grabber HP.

The General Grabber UHP is available in 27 sizes in 70 through 35 series in 15-, 16-, 17-, 18-, 20-, 22-, 23- and 24-inch rim diameters.

The General Exclaim UHP is available in 21 sizes in 45 through 30 series and 16- through 20-inch rim diameters.

And the General Grabber HP will be available in five 60- and 70-series sizes with a 15-inch rim diameter.

"The new generation of General tires is far more exciting. It is leaps and bounds beyond what we've done before," adds Talbert.

The tires were designed concurrently in the U.S. and Europe, the company noted.
