RMA: Passenger shipments increased 2.6% in January

Both replacement and original equipment passenger tire shipments were up in January compared to January 2004, according to the Rubber Manufacturers Association.

Replacement and OE passenger tire shipments were up 2.8% and 1.6%, respectively. Overall, passenger shipments were up 2.6%.

Compared to January 2003, replacement passenger tire shipments were up 8.7%, while OE shipments were down 10.2%.

Replacement light truck tire shipments in January remained relatively unchanged in 2005 vs. 2004. OE shipments were down 6.5%.

Both replacement and OE medium and wide-base truck tire shipments were up for the fourth consecutive month. Replacement shipments were up 10.6% in January compared to 2003, while OE shipments were up 27%.

While OE heavy truck tire shipments were up 6.9%, replacement heavy truck tire shipments were down 20%.

Overall, total passenger, light truck and truck tire shipments were up 2.7% compared to January 2004. Replacement shipments were up 2.8%, while OE shipments were up 2.6%.
