Target Tire announces expansion plans

Jan. 22, 2002

Target Tire Inc. plans to add an 11th warehouse by the end of the year, according to President Howard Stein.

Stein says the Jacksonville, N.C.-based wholesale distributor is in negotiations to purchase a 42,000-square-foot warehouse in Savannah, Ga. "One way or another, we'll be there this year."

In addition, Target is moving into a new warehouse in Columbia, S.C. It is almost double the size of the previous one. The move should be completed by early April.

Stein made the announcements in Greenville, S.C., at Target Tire's annual dealer meeting. Target wholesales to more than 4,000 dealers, according to Dan Seitler, the company's purchasing/marketing manager for Bridgestone, Firestone and Dayton tires.

During the meeting's annual "sellathon," dealers purchased more than 100,000 tires and more than $100,000 in equipment.

Target Tire is one of the largest American Car Care Centers (ACCC) distributors with 105 associate dealers. That represents 10% of ACCC's 1,035 total across the United States. The company also offers the TireStarz USA and Continental Gold programs, among others.

Target Tire, which also runs 15 retail stores, is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. Chairman Bucky Stein started the company as Tiretown in North Carolina in 1952.
