RMA co-sponsors rubber modified asphalt conference

Feb. 8, 2005

The rubber and asphalt industries are joining together to educate buyers, sellers and other stakeholders on the benefits of rubber modified asphalt.

The conference, "Second Rubber Modified Asphalt Conference -- Working Together to Improve Roads," will be held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in San Antonio, Texas, May 18-19, 2005. It will immediately follow the Rubber Division's Spring 167th Technical Meeting.

The Rubber Manufacturers Association (RMA) is co-sponsoring the event with the Rubber Division of the American Chemical Society. Additional sponsors of the event include the Federal Highway Administration, Environmental Protection Agency, Rubber Pavements Association, National Asphalt Pavement Association, National Center for Asphalt Technology, Asphalt Institute and Rubber Recycling Topical Group.

The conference will focus on the following:

* teaching attendees about the uses of rubber modified asphalt.

* facilitating discussions between industries and government agencies.

"This conference builds on the tremendous response and positive feedback we received from last year's inaugural event," says Michael Blumenthal, RMA senior technical director. "We expect that this year will be even more educational."

The conference will include a field trip to a nearby rubber modified asphalt pavement project. The event also will feature tabletop exhibits and other sponsorship programs.

Registration and additional details on the conference are available on Rubber Division's Web site at www.rubber.org.
