Michelin North America Inc. (MNA) is recalling 20,000 size P235/75R15 BFGoodrich brand Land Terrain tires in the United States and Canada.
MNA officials discovered via the company's quality inspection process that the tires were built using two molds provided by a supplier "that did not have required tread wear indicators."
To date, there have been no reported issues or complaints pertaining to the issue, which "does not affect the performance of the tires."
The tires involved were produced at MNA's Opelika, Ala., facility from February 29 to August 19 of 2004.
"The issue has been corrected and consumers who purchased the affected tires will receive free of charge new tires that have the required tread wear indicators."
MNA informed the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on Feb. 3, 2005, of its U.S. recall campaign and has already begun communication with dealers.
The company will contact consumers who may have purchased affected tires via first class mail in the coming weeks.
The recalled tires have Department of Transportation tire identification numbers that begin with DOT AN HL B411 and end with the last four digits 0904 through 3304 and mold numbers 40381 and 40382.
