Vredestein could bring Amtel brand to N.A.

Russian tiremaker Amtel's pending acquisition of Vredestein Banden might result in the Amtel brand being introduced to the North American market, Marc Luyten, Vredestein Banden's director of marketing and sales, told moderntiredealer.com yesterday.

In December, Amtel confirmed that it will buy Vredestein and is planning initial public offerings on the Moscow and London Stock Exchanges.

"Amtel is interested in Vredestein for a number of reasons," says Luyten. "One of them is our sales network in Europe and North America.

"It's too early to come out with the Amtel brand over here, but the manufacturing capacity is there (in Russia)."

Amtel enjoys 37% of the Russian tire market, according to Luyten.
