Hankook recalls 17,729 17-inch tires

Dec. 22, 2010

Hankook Tire America Corp. is recalling certain size P265/70R17S replacement tires that fail to conform to the endurance requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 139, "New Pneumatic Radial Tires For Light Vehicles," according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The Dynapro AS RH03 all-season light truck and SUV tires in question experienced "less than expected sidewall performance." The potential number of units affected is 17,729.

"The tires can wear prematurely and/or experience a blow-out, increasing the risk of a crash," say NHTSA officials. Hankook will send notices to all owners of record and replace the tires free of charge.

The safety recall is expected to begin in January 2011. Owners may contact Hankook at (855) 275-8899.
