Yokohama is an award-winning green machine

Nov. 23, 2010

Two of Yokohama Rubber Co. Ltd.'s "3R" (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) efforts recently received awards from the Clean Japan Center.

Under the center's FY2010 Awards for Circular Resource Techniques and Systems, Yokohama was recognized for:

*  "reduction of industrial waste by recycling spent vulcanizing bladders," and

* "development, expanded use of, and creating a recycling system for e-can containers for two-component sealants."

Under a basic policy of asserting world-class strengths in technologies for protecting the environment, as stated in its "Medium-Range Management Plan: Grand Design 100," Yokohama has endorsed the concept of "top-level environmental friendliness in production." One of the priorities in that declaration is the reduction of waste emissions through efficient use of resources, including the development of recycling technology and recycled products.

Yokohama also has developed other recycled products, including the world's first recyclable thermoplastic reversible rubber.
