Tires Plus honored by cancer foundation

Nov. 11, 2010

The Pediatric Cancer Foundation (PCF) recently named Tires Plus as Partner of the Year and the company’s Vice President of Sales and Marketing Jeremy Persinger as its Volunteer of the Year for leading the company’s various efforts in supporting the PCF.

The PCF is a nonprofit organization headquartered in Tampa, Fla., that is dedicated to funding research to eliminate childhood cancer. Tires Plus is owned and operated by Morgan Tire & Auto LLC, which is part of Bridgestone Retail Operations LLC.

An awards dinner took place in St. Petersburg, Fla., after the PCF’s 2010 Yerrid Foundation Grand Slam Celebrity Fishing Tournament.

“I’m honored to be named the Volunteer of the Year by the PCF,” says Persinger. “On behalf of all of us at Tires Plus, we are so proud to join the PCF in its efforts against what is truly a horrific disease affecting children nationwide.”

“Jeremy is incredibly humble, but he has truly spearheaded much of our involvement with this worthy organization," says Stu Watterson, president & CEO, Morgan Tire & Auto LLC. "We are so proud that our company and one of our own were recognized with these volunteer awards.

“At Tires Plus, our teammates not only care about our customers’ vehicles, but also about the communities that we call home,” says Watterson. “This terrible disease has affected so many children and families, and as active members of our communities, we are committed to the fight against childhood cancer. We are truly honored to receive the Partner of the Year award.”

In addition to supporting the Grand Slam Celebrity Fishing Tournament, the company teamed up with Major League Baseball’s Tampa Bay Rays to donate $100 for each home run hit during the team’s entire season. In total, Tires Plus donated $20,000 to the PCF.

Recently, an in-store promotion allowed drivers to help support the PCF’s mission. By accepting a $1 upgrade on oil change services, drivers who visited participating Tires Plus and Wheel Works stores donated more than $36,000 to the PCF; this amount also included donations by Tires Plus and Wheel Works teammates.

This fall, Tires Plus is sponsoring Heel to Heal, a five-kilometer fun run and one-mile walk on Nov. 20 at Hyde Park Village in Tampa, Fla.
