SEMA Show, Day One: Hankook concept tire will soon become a reality

Nov. 2, 2010

Hankook Tire America Corp. is displaying a Ventus "concept" tire at the Global Tire Expo -- Powered by TIA in Las Vegas, Nev.: the Ventus V2 Concept High Performance All-Season tire.

The tire will be available throughout the United States in 22 sizes by Dec. 1, 2010.

"This tire will implement a wide range of advancements that gives drivers more control and comfort as well as all season performance,” says Todd Hershberger, senior vice president. “It represents the ideal interaction between driver, vehicle and the road.”

One of those innovations is the tire’s patented “Twister System,” a unique 3D Wave Pattern Channel that forcibly removes water from the tire’s contact patch. This exclusive design allows for "impressive" traction in wet conditions and helps to minimize the risk of hydroplaning.

Hankook engineers also used a design tool called Suspension Performance Characterization during the development of Ventus V2 Concept. This technology allowed engineers to optimize the tire’s performance according to lean angles and directional movements during computer simulated usage. The end result is a tire that provides improved performance and control during cornering and braking.

Comfort wasn’t overlooked either. Radiation Noise Prediction technology enabled Hankook engineers to pinpoint and eliminate unwanted road noise from the design, providing a finished tire with a quieter ride.

An All-Season High Performance Compound also extends the tire’s tread life and improves snow traction. These improvements allow the Ventus V2 Concept to match the performance capabilities of most of its summer tires, but with twice the winter traction.

Other features of the Ventus V2 Concept include an Optimized Contact Patch that improves driving comfort and stability and prevents unusual abrasion; and a jointless cap-ply that improves uniformity for durability and a smoother ride.
