Wide-base tires get spa treatment from STL

Oct. 21, 2010

Standards Testing Laboratories Inc. (STL), has expanded its rolling resistance capabilities to include tires with up to 10,000 pounds of radial force.

STL provides rolling resistance testing in accordance with SAE J1269 and ISO 28580 regulations. It is capable of testing the latest tires on the market, including wide-base tires used on commercial trucks.

"There is a need in the industry to test these wide-base tires, which are increasingly being used in place of two standard tires on semi trucks and other commercial settings like cement trucks and waste haulers," says Cheryl Schnuth, vice president, marketing/technical sales, for STL. "To answer the industry demand, STL upgraded our rolling resistance machinery and now offers accurate, efficient solutions for anyone who wants to run a wide-base tire or a single tire at a higher load."

Based in Massillon, Ohio, STL operates testing facilities in Massillon and San Angelo, Texas. Through its four divisions, the company provides the rubber and automotive industries with dynamic laboratory testing, static and physical testing, fleet testing, test machines, specialized photographic and video services and consulting services.
