Ohio tire industry's Mike Broadwater dies

Michael Charles Broadwater, longtime Ohio Tire and Automotive Association board member and past president, died at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, on Sept. 26, 2010. He was 69.

"The tire industry lost a great advocate and friend," says Gordon Gough, executive vice president and chief financial officer for the  Ohio Council of Retail Merchants & Affiliates.

Broadwater was the Columbus area branch manager for Tyres International Inc. at the time of his death. He dedicated 50 years of his life to the tire industry.

According to his obituary in the "Columbus Dispatch," he was born on June 27, 1941, in Parkersburg, W.V. He graduated from Potomac State College in West Virginia, and served in the United States Army as a military policeman. He also was a member of the Big Brothers Big Sisters Association of Greater Columbus.

Broadwater is survived by his wife of 34 years, Sue (Stanecek); brother, Tom (Connie) Broadwater of Cambridge, Ohio; sisters, Jackie (Greg) Smith of Vienna, W.V., and Barbara (Anthony) Basil of Columbus; and cousin, Becky (Jerry) Trembush of Glendale, W.V. He also is survived by his mother and father-in-law, Joseph and Mary Stanecek, and sister-in-law, Karen (Jimmy) Scruggs, all of Houston, Texas.

Friends may call Friday, Oct. 1, 2010, at the John Quint Treboni Funeral Home, 1177 W. 5th Ave., from 4 p.m. to -8 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 2, at St. Christopher Catholic Church, 1420 Grandview Ave; friends are asked to meet at the church for the funeral.
