Commercial trailer orders continue to climb

Sept. 24, 2010

What a difference one year makes. August commercial trailer net orders were up 55% from August 2009 numbers, according to ACT Research.

In fact, eight of the nine trailer categories that ACT tracks have posted year-over-year growth, say ACT officials.

Net orders of commercial trailers in August totaled 10,946. "Trailer manufacturers increased the per day build rate by 6% in August, which caused the backlog of orders to decline for the first time in eight months."

"With more freight to haul and continued tight freight hauling capacity, trucker profits are rising and should provide the wherewithal to increase the pace of replacing older equipment," says Kenny Vieth, ACT senior analyst.
