Superfund expert to speak at TIA symposium

Sept. 20, 2010

Superfund legal expert Gary Letcher will be speaking at the upcoming the Tire Industry Association (TIA) Environmental Symposium being held Sept. 30 – Oct. 2, 2010, at the Ocean City Convention Center in Ocean City, Md.

Letcher will discuss the latest information on the Superfund law, and how tire professionals can protect themselves from any potential fines.

In his session, entitled, “Superfund Issues Affecting the Tire Industry,” Letcher will brief attendees on the current status of Superfund liability for tires, oil and other discarded automotive materials. He will also discuss some case histories and possible resolutions to legal challenges the tire industry faces from Superfund determinations.

"So many tire dealers and others are dangerously unaware of how much exposure they might have to the Superfund law and its often exorbitant fines," says Dick Gust, TIA Environmental Advisory Council (EAC) co-chair. “That’s why it’s important to come to the TIA Environmental Symposium and get the latest information.”

“TIA has been alerting our members to the potential ramifications of the Superfund law for a while. As part of this ongoing effort, we’re proud to offer tire industry professionals a chance to hear from Gary Letcher, an expert on this subject,” says TIA Executive Vice President Roy Littlefield.
