CGS Tyres strengthens ties with France

Sept. 7, 2010

The CGS Tyres Group has agreed to acquire the sales unit of L’Européenne de pneumatiques (EDP), a French agricultural and industrial tire company.

CGS Tyres is based in Prague, the Czech Republic. It is part of Mitas a.s., which is the tire divison of CGS a.s.

The CGS Pneu France SARL tire division has begun selling Mitas-branded tires to EDP's original equipment and replacement market customers in France.

“We are improving customer relations in France,” says Andrew Mabin, the marketing and sales director of Mitas. "Now, our French subsidiary has direct control over the Mitas tire sales channel and is better equipped to cope with customer demands.”

France is CTS Tyres' fourth largest market worldwide.

EDP, based in Saint-Paul-lès-Romans, has sold tires produced by Mitas since 1972. Prior to its the acquisition of its sales unit, EDP imported Mitas agricultural and industrial tires, while CGS Pneus France imported two brands:

* CGS Tyres’ Cultor brand, and

* the Continental brand, produced under a licensing agreement with Continental AG.

CGS, through its CGS Tires US Inc. division, is building a farm tire plant in Charles City, Iowa. For more information, click on "CGS to proceed with building Iowa ag tire plant."
