TANA, ITRA and NHTSA roll out joint tire safety campaign

Nov. 30, 2001

The Tire Association of North America (TANA) and the International Tire & Rubber Association (ITRA), in their first joint effort, are teaming with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to launch "the tire industry's largest cooperative effort to educate consumers about tire safety," according to association officials.

During the coming months, TANA and ITRA will work closely with NHTSA to distribute new informational materials focusing on key issues like inflation pressure and tread depth to the public through tire dealerships across the country.

The associations, which announced a tentative merger in late October, are publicizing the campaign -- entitled "Tire Safety: Everything Rides On It" -- to retail and commercial dealers, plus other tire industry businesses that have direct contact with end users.

"This effort, and the resulting work with NHTSA, will raise public awareness of proper tire safety and help our industry maintain a positive relationship with the government agency," says TANA President Steve Disney.
