Continental unveils HSR2 Eco Plus truck tire

July 1, 2010

Continental Tire the Americas LLC has unveiled a new and more fuel-efficient version of its best-selling medium truck tire. The new Continental HSR2 Eco Plus is available in size 275/80R22.5.

When tested with typical loads for its application, the tire "showed a 15% improvement in rolling resistance over the current HSR2 regional steer tire," according to Continental officials. "This translates to approximately 3% greater fuel economy."

Features include a protective curb rib for high-scrub applications, a patented groove geometry that reduces cracking and tearing, Continental's VAI+ system of visual alignment indicators that also demonstrate a tire's tread depth, and more.

The HSR2 Eco Plus also has been verified by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's SmartWay program.

"If you run the combined application of some long haul highway traffic and some regional on-road traffic, then the HSR2 Eco Plus has the ideal combination of tread compound and grooves," says Roger Stansbie, Continental's director of radial truck tire technology.
