Goodyear blimps will promote Tire Safety Week

June 4, 2010

Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. will enlist its blimp fleet to remind motorists about National Tire Safety Week, which runs June 6-12.

The tiremaker's three airships -- the Akron, Ohio-based Spirit of Goodyear, the Pompano Beach, Fla.-based Spirit of Innovation and the Carson, Calif.-based Spirit of America -- will fly with specially designed day and night tire care messages urging vehicle owners to keep their tires properly inflated.

The blimps' message boards hold a total of 82,656 LED lights, allowing messages to be read from more than a quarter-mile away.

"Recent studies have shown that many motorists simply do not regularly check their tires," notes Goodyear Marketing Manager Fred Cooper.
