Continental truck tires added to SmartWay list

May 27, 2010

Two additional truck tires from Continental Tire the Americas LLC have been added to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) SmartWay Transport Partnership's list of verified fuel savings technologies.

Continental's HSL2 Eco Plus (heavy steer long-haul) and HDL2 Eco Plus (heavy drive long-haul) truck tire sizes in the 295/60R22.5 size were recently verified by SmartWay as low rolling resistance truck tires. These truck tires are three inches shorter than the 275/80R22.5 sizes, but each has 1,215 more pounds of additional carrying capacity in a single fitment for Load Range G, the company notes.

For each axle position, Continental offers multiple options for tires that have been verified by the EPA for low rolling resistance when used for Class 8, line-haul trucks. These include HSL2 and HSL2 Eco Plus steer tires; HDL Eco Plus, HDL2 Eco Plus and HDL2 DL Eco Plus drive tires; and HTL Eco Plus and HTL1 trailer tires.
