May 24, 2010

Car builder Steve Saleen recently launched his SMS Signature Series car, the 2011 SMS 302 Mustang fitted with Pirelli P Zero tires.

The 2011 SMS 302 Mustang represents the second in the trio of SMS American Supercars. The first, introduced in 2009, was the 2010 SMS 570 Challenger. The third, the SMS 620 Camaro, is scheduled to be introduced later this year.

Two SMS 302 versions initially will be offered: the SMS 302 4V with a normally aspirated 5.0L engine, followed by the SMS 302 SC, which features the patented SMS 296 Supercharger. Both models utilize Pirelli P Zero ultra-high-performance tires in the following sizes:

* 275/35ZR20 (on 20x9.5-inch spoke alloy wheels) on the front;

* 275/40ZR20 (on 20x10.5-inch spoke alloy wheels) on the rear.

“SMS Supercars offers a very appealing package in its 302 Mustang line-up, and P Zero will lay down every bit of power and performance the car was designed to achieve,” says Tom Gravalos, Pirelli Tire North America's vice president of marketing, motorsports and OE.

The SMS 302 4V's V8 engine is designed to deliver more than 440 hp and 400 ft.-lb. of torque. The SMS 302SC has even more power: It is engineered to deliver more than 535 hp and 450 ft.-lb. of torque. Transmission options for both vehicles are a 6-speed automatic or a 6-Speed TR3650 manual.
