BFS to begin using Bridgestone tires in CART

Nov. 1, 2001

Bridgestone/Firestone Inc. (BFS) has decided to use Bridgestone Potenza racing radials -- instead of Firestone Firehawks -- in the FedEx Championship Auto Racing Teams (CART) competition for 2002.

The move "will reinforce the brand and complement Bridgestone's exposure in F1 (Formula One World Driver's Championship)," said Shu Ishibashi, president of the Bridgestone/Firestone U.S. Consumer Tire Group.

Bridgestone Potenzas produced for CART racing will made primarily at BFS' tech center in Akron, Ohio, with some times manufactured at the company's Tokyo, Japan, technical center.
