Team Toyo’s J.C. Meynet breaks Modified class overall track record

May 15, 2010

J.C. Meynet, driver of the AQ Motorsports/Toyo Tires 2006 Subaru WRX STI, broke the overall track record for the Modified class and the record for the Modified AWD class during the Redline Time Attack! event at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in Nevada recently. In addition, the number one qualifying Meynet and the AQ Motorsports team won the Modified AWD class and Modified overall while competing on Toyo Proxes® R888 street legal, r-compound tires.

Meynet’s 550-horsepower Subaru blistered the 2.2-mile exterior road course in 1:43 flat. At the end of the day, he defeated all 21 other Modified class cars and even beat all but three of the 12 Unlimited class cars, which are much lighter and compete on slicks.

“Our Toyo's worked flawlessly all day, just as they have for us over the past two years. The tires performed predictably and at the highest level from the warm up lap to the cool off lap,” said Meynet. “These R888's are easy to set up and respond predictably to suspension and pressure adjustments, it was easy to hit our target pressure and temperature which is key to success.

"These tires were still able to set winning lap times even after substantial wear and work great throughout their temperature range. It's amazing how well these tires perform on a race track, lapping almost as fast as dedicated qualifying slicks. The fact that they are truly street legal and have full depth tread is nothing short of amazing.”

“We congratulate J.C. Meynet and the AQ Motorsports team for scoring another commanding win while racing on Toyo Proxes R888 tires,” said Stan Chen, manager of events and motorsports, Toyo Tire U.S.A. Corp. “Meynet has raised the bar to a new height in the Modified category of Time Attack, and we are proud to be a part of his effort.”
