Bridgestone will build second plant in India

March 30, 2010

Bridgestone Corp. will build a new, 50 billion yen passenger and medium truck tire plant near Pune, India. Car tire production is scheduled to start in January 2013.

Truck and bus tire production will begin in summer 2013. By the end of 2010, the plant's capacity will reach 10,000 passenger tires and 3,000 truck/bus tires per day.

"Tire demand in India is expected to grow significantly as automotive production and unit sales increase in step with the expansion of road infrastructure," say Bridgestone officials.

Bridgestone, which does business in India under the Bridgestone India Private Ltd. name, has another tire production plant in the country. That factory opened in 1998.
