Bridgestone to expand farm tire capacity

March 29, 2010

Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations (BATO) will further expand the manufacturing capacity at its farm tire plant in Des Moines, Iowa.

Investments will be made in the core areas of tire building, curing and support equipment "and will allow the company to meet the farm equipment industry's growing demand for high capacity radial farm tires both in North America and globally," say BATO officials.

BATO's investment initiative in Des Moines began last year. When complete, it will total $77 million "over the course of three years."

Investments "will allow (BATO) to maintain (its) market position, continue to develop advanced solutions, and supply improved tire technology to the agricultural industry," says Ken Allen, president, Agricultural Tire, U.S. & Canada Commercial Tire Sales division, BATO.

The Des Moine factory employs 1,400 people.
