Titan to supply tire/wheel assemblies to Marines

Oct. 3, 2001

Titan Tire Corp. has inked a deal with the United States Marine Corps to develop tires and its LSW tire/wheel assemblies for light armored vehicles.

"Military vehicles operate off-highway roughly 65% of the time, so Titan's expertise is a good match for the military's needs," says Titan President and CEO Morry Taylor.

The tiremaker's patent-pending LSW assemblies contain short, thick sidewalls paired with larger diameter wheels to provide run-flat capabilities suited for military vehicles like trucks and hummers, say Titan officials.

Last week, Titan Wheel Corp., another subsidiary of Titan International, signed a multi-year contract with the U.S. Army to supply it with two-piece bolt-together wheels; the deal could exceed $45 million, according to company projections.
