Nokian Tyres plc is promoting its new Nokian Hakkapeliitta 7 SUV studded winter tire, which will be available in 21 sizes, ranging from 16 inches to 21 inches in diameter.
"Intensive research conducted by our R&D experts as well as the uncompromising testing at Nokian test centers in Ivalo and Nokia, Finland, proved that the new (tire) has the ability to optimally utilize the new driving stability management systems and thereby deliver added safety and better performance in demanding circumstances," say Nokian officials.
Features include Nokian's proprietary Air Claw Technlogy, which contains studs and droplet-shaped air "shock absorbers in the front edge of the tread blocks. This innovation is similar to the cushioning used in good running shoes. The air vents in the tire soften and absorb the impact of the studs on the road and at the same time reduce stud vibration when in contact with the road surface."
The Hakkapeliitta 7 SUV also contains an aggressive tread pattern with dense, sharp-edged zig-zag siping; straight, staggered shoulder areas; "side impact protection;" and two-ply construction for extra strength, say officials.
Retail sales will begin this spring in Scandinavia, Russia, Ukraine and several other Eastern European countries.
