Goodyear shipments grew last month

Sept. 26, 2001

Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. reports its consumer and commercial replacement shipments rose in August.

"Shipments of the Goodyear brand were up more than 17%," say company officials.

The Akron, Ohio-based tiremaker says its consumer and commercial original equipment shipments were above the industry's average in August.

"Production levels for Ford (Motor Co.)-approved replacement tire lines are running at full capacity. However, in light of the weak OE consumer and commercial markets, significant production cutbacks were made in August."

More manufacturing cutbacks are expected "as the company continues aligning inventories with market conditions."
